Goodbye to boundries, and to Borders

About 14 hours ago, the Detroit Free Press announced the chapter 11 of Borders books & Music. 399 stores to be liquidated, 11,000 jobs and the damage to publishers alone is bad enough, but what about the customers?

My children and I have many fond memories of visits to borders...story times, laughter, good coffee, and great books. I looked back on some old accounts and realized i have spent likely $10,000 at Borders myself. It hurts to see an old friend go.

Was it just changing tastes and online shopping? Was it supposed piracy? I'd say no to the later since my own books have sold better! Yes, better, since i loaded them on torrent sites and went to creative commons. Or, was it the logical thing...greedy overgrowth met by changing times. Bad management has killed many a company, and will do so for ever and anon.

Christopher Columbus says goodbye

Christopher Columbus, the director of the first two installments of the Harry Potter Franchise, and Producer of the third, is helping usher out his favorite cash cow this Friday. After sales in the billions, long lines and utterly awful movie theater food (not to mention nosy and noisy little monsters EVERYWHERE!), what in Gods name do we have to look forward to?

Maybe talking with our kids and pulling them away from their sacred MMORPGs and video game systems? Perhaps, oh my, we might read a book? Or could we actually take our spouses on a date that DID NOT revolve around kids books and getting bubble gum all over our shoes? Perish the thought!

We'll just have to buy the DVDs! And sit on our fat asses at home, instead of the movies!

the sky isn't falling, the ceiling is rising!

Recent debates in the Congress over raising the Debt ceiling have caused quite a stir. Some are outraged over social security and medicare being on the chopping block as a negotiation tool. Others are furious that we're in debt at all.

The looming question in my mind is, what is the Nature of this debt? Did you know that Alexander Hamilton and many founding fathers absolutely DID NOT want a Central bank for the USA? Now we have 8?!

Why is it our government must borrow our own money from a private organization? Does this bother anyone else?

Bill O'reilly Transforms?!

A Note to Stephen Spielberg, Megatron is already a liar and a moron, why would you ask Bill O'Reilly to make your film collaboration even more twisted?

"7. "That's my advice to all homosexuals, whether they're in the Boy Scouts, or in the Army or in high school: Shut up, don't tell anybody what you do, your life will be a lot easier."

Really? Sounds terrible sensitive and sensible, doesn't it? Why, it'd be like having Megatron for President.

Don't misread me, i'm a fairly conservative individual, but when a man alks the way O'Reilly has about blacks (see http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/622025/bill_oreillys_top_ten_dumbest_quotes_pg2.html?cat=9) or homosexuals, i have to wonder.

What does O'Reilly do in the movie? Rip Megatron off?

To Miss Brooke Daniels

I've been a bit harried,
But I shan't be remiss,
to point out, dear Lady,
He may be rightly pissed!
His technique was tacky,
more rightly, a shame,
but such an expensive rock?
to keep it? Not you, dame!
Glad you're dad is smart,
returning it is right!
besides, not having a schmuck?
You'll sleep better tonight!

Oh My, Roy Williams Sues Miss Texas!

In the funniest, and saddest of events, Dallas Cowboys receiver, Roy Williams, is suing Miss Texas to get the $70,000+ Engagement ring back! Williams proposed by mail (Yes, MAIL!) to Miss Texas USA, Brooke Daniels. Apparently, according to some sources, Williams mailed a taped wedding proposal, some money for dental bills, and the expensive ring.

Her father, Michael Williams, apparently will return the ring.

Hey Roy? Maybe next time you'll ask Santa for a real woman, and not a ho ho ho!
